It just came out of nowhere! We’ve heard that hundreds of times – hail does seem to come out of nowhere.
In fact near Bethune, Colorado, on your average Tuesday, the largest hailstone ever recorded in the state measured in at 4.83 inches in diameter. According to the National Weather Service, that bad boy weighed just over half a pound.
“Photos show that it was even larger when it fell – and was about 30 minutes between when it fell and was put in the freezer,” the Colorado Climate Center said in a Tweet.
